What We Offer

Our Signature Hatha Yoga & Literary Workshop Services

Four carefully designed programs for every stage of your yoga and wellness journey — from your very first downward dog to mastery-level Hatha practice, and everything in between.

Hatha Yoga Classes

Rooted in thousands of years of tradition, our core Hatha Yoga classes focus on precise posture alignment, conscious breathing, and meditative stillness. Each session is thoughtfully sequenced to release tension built from long commutes and screen-heavy workdays — the quintessential antidote to New York City professional life.

Classes run 60 and 90 minutes, seven days a week, at times designed around the Manhattan and Brooklyn work schedule. Small class sizes mean your instructor can correct alignment personally, preventing injury and accelerating your progress.

Literary-Themed Workshops

Our signature offering — book-themed yoga workshops that pair a chosen literary work with a bespoke movement sequence. Explore Whitman's expansiveness through wide-stance poses, or feel Plath's introspection in a restorative floor sequence. Ideal for Brooklyn book clubs and writers seeking creative inspiration.

Beginner-Friendly Structured Introductory Yoga Series

Never done yoga before? Perfect. Our Beginner Yoga Series was designed specifically for people who've been curious but intimidated — NYC university students managing exam stress, Gen Z professionals finding their first wellness anchor, and anyone who needs a genuinely affordable, genuinely welcoming entry point into yoga.

Over six weeks, you'll build a real foundation — not just learn poses, but understand why each one matters. Small class sizes ensure you always get personal attention. There's no judgment here, only progress at your pace.

Build strength and proprioception through fundamental standing postures, with modifications for every body type.

Floor Work & Core Stability

Discover how a stable core transforms every pose — and reduces the lower-back tension many desk workers carry daily.

Uniquely Brooklyn

Literary-Themed Yoga Workshops for Book Lovers

The only yoga studio in Brooklyn — possibly in all of New York City — where each workshop is inspired by a literary work. We believe the act of reading and the act of movement arise from the same human need: to understand ourselves more fully.

Poet & Pose Series

Each month features a different poet — Whitman, Dickinson, Rumi — whose work shapes a unique movement sequence. Writers and poets in Brooklyn's creative community find this series a remarkable source of inspiration and embodied understanding of language.

Novel in Motion

Partner with your favorite novel. Recent workshops have explored the physicality of Toni Morrison's prose, the breath-hold tension of Kafka's narratives, and the expansive joy of Zora Neale Hurston's language — all through mindful movement.

Book Club & Breathe

Bring your Brooklyn book club. We host private literary-themed yoga workshops tailored to the book your club just finished — a conversation, a practice, and a shared experience rolled into one memorable two-hour session.

World Literature & Wellness

Explore yoga traditions through the lens of global literature — Japanese haiku alongside Zen-inspired seated practice, Latin American magical realism flowing through dynamic Hatha sequences. A truly multicultural wellness experience.

Write, Breathe, Move

A combined creative writing and yoga session where movement unlocks narrative inspiration. Bring your journal. Guided writing prompts between movement sequences help writers break through creative blocks and access deeper creative flow states.

Evening Mindfulness Reads

Wind down with a restorative yoga session paired with a curated short story or essay read aloud by our instructors. The perfect midweek reset for NYC professionals and digital nomads needing structured decompression after intense workdays.

Real Stories

NYC Professionals & Book Lovers Transform

From burnout Manhattan professionals to Brooklyn literary enthusiasts — here's what our community says about finding their balance at Prose & Pose Yoga.

"I came in as a total skeptic — a finance professional who thought yoga was for people with more flexible schedules and bodies. Three months into the Hatha classes at Prose & Pose Yoga, my chronic neck pain is gone and I'm sleeping through the night for the first time in years. The small class sizes make all the difference."

Reddz Pimpton
Finance Professional, Manhattan

"The Literary-Themed Workshops are unlike anything else in Brooklyn. We did a session inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin and I genuinely cried — in the best possible way. It's hard to explain unless you experience it. If you love books and need a creative outlet that isn't just sitting, this is it."

Maretha Petroviak
Librarian & Book Club Organizer, Williamsburg

"I'm a marathon runner who kept getting injured. A physical therapist finally told me to try yoga. I expected to be bored. The Advanced Practice Sessions at Prose & Pose Yoga humbled me completely — and fixed my IT band issue within six weeks. My race times improved by seven minutes. I'm a convert."

Copper Lusink
Marathon Runner & Tech Lead, Brooklyn

"As a grad student at NYU struggling with exam anxiety, I needed something accessible and affordable. The Beginner Series was exactly that. Six weeks, no judgment, incredibly supportive instructors. My stress levels have dropped noticeably. I tell every friend at school about this place."

Kub Steptore
Graduate Student, NYU

"I'm a remote worker and I was going stir-crazy in my apartment. Prose & Pose Yoga gave me a reason to leave home with intention three times a week. The community here is warm, the instruction is serious, and the literary workshops feed my brain while the yoga feeds my body. Exactly what I needed."

Debroop Devero
Freelance Designer, Remote Worker, Bushwick

"After forty-five years of living in my head, someone finally showed me how to live in my body too. The instructors here understand traditional Hatha alignment in a way that's rare in New York City. My posture has transformed. My wife says I look ten years younger. I'll take it."

Alain Chalot
Architect, Park Slope

"I brought my entire book club here for a private Literary Workshop session and it was genuinely one of the most memorable group experiences we've ever had together. Everyone left deeply moved — both physically and emotionally. We've already booked our next session. Non-negotiable annual tradition now."

About Prose & Pose Yoga

Where Books Meet Balance in Brooklyn

Prose & Pose Yoga was born from a simple belief: that the contemplative life of literature and the embodied life of yoga are not separate pursuits but two expressions of the same human longing for depth, meaning, and presence.

Located at 354 Metropolitan Avenue in the heart of Williamsburg, we've spent over eight years building a community that celebrates both. Our instructors hold advanced certifications in Hatha Yoga and bring genuine passion for the literary arts — many are published writers, avid readers, and longtime practitioners who chose to weave both worlds together professionally.

We're proud of our eco-conscious facility: organic cotton props, non-toxic cleaning products, sustainable wood floors, and a lending library of curated literary works available to all students. We designed this space to reflect the values of Brooklyn's wellness culture — thoughtful, creative, and uncompromisingly quality-driven.
